Adopt, Don’t Shop—Why Now Matters

By Charlotte Wilson 2025-05-30 Choosing Pet
In modern society, more and more people choose to have pets to accompany their lives. Whether it is a dog, cat or other small pets, they can bring endless joy and warmth to people. However, when we want to have a pet, should we buy a baby bred from a purebred pet, or choose to adopt a stray animal?
In modern society, more and more people choose to have pets to accompany their lives. Whether it is a dog, cat or other small pets, they can bring endless joy and warmth to people. However, when we want to have a pet, should we buy a baby bred from a purebred pet, or choose to adopt a stray animal?
Adopt instead of buying: appeal rather than compulsion
First of all, adopting instead of buying is not a mandatory requirement, but an appeal. You can choose to buy your favorite pet in a regular kennel, which is completely your freedom. However, the reality is that in order to seek cheapness or pursue rare breeds, many people choose backyard bred animals, which has led to many tragedies.

The tragedy of backyard breeding
Animals bred in backyards often live in unhealthy environments and lack necessary medical care and care. These animals may face various health problems and may even die from illness or malnutrition. The call for adoption instead of buying is to reduce the occurrence of such tragedies.
Adopt instead of buying: for a better future
Some people may say that even if they are not adopted, these animals will be bought by others. But the problem is that these animals are often purchased just to meet personal needs rather than out of concern for animal welfare. If you don't reduce purchases, then these backyard-bred animals will continue to exist and face more suffering.
Conflicts between adopters and rescue stations
There are some conflicts between adopters and rescue stations.
On the one hand, rescue stations want to ensure that adopters do not abuse animals, so the review process is strict, which may make some adopters feel distrusted.
On the other hand, rescue stations are mostly organized by volunteers, who need to invest a lot of time and energy outside of work and life, and the review of materials and processing progress may not be as efficient as commercial organizations.

Solutions to conflicts
Despite these conflicts, the animals' suffering is not their fault. As the country develops and ideas progress, we believe that these problems will be resolved. Rescue stations and adopters need to work together to ensure that animals are properly cared for.
Uniqueness of life
Every life is unique, and no life can replace another. It is a blasphemy to use another life to commemorate the passing of a pet. We should cherish the existence of every life, rejoice in their company, but also acknowledge their death and separation. When we are ready to start a new journey again, we will always keep them in our hearts.
Pet adoption helps protect the welfare of animals.
Every year, thousands of stray animals wander around, often in a plight of lack of food and homelessness. These lovely lives are eager for a warm family, suitable food, and people's care and love. Unfortunately, there are still people with insufficient public awareness who choose to buy purebred pets, thus ignoring these poor stray animals. Pet adoption can solve the basic needs of stray animals, give them a warm home, provide them with proper food and medical care, so that they can enjoy a normal life. Only when more and more people choose to adopt instead of buying can the number of stray animals be reduced.
Through pet adoption, we can protect stray animals, promote social care, and spread love and kindness. When choosing a pet, we should give up the idea of buying a purebred pet and choose to adopt a stray animal that needs our love. Let us work together and act for the happiness of pets and the progress of our society!
